Default Can't Find MAP Sensor

I have the Haynes repair manual for my '88 Bonneville and they do not disclose the location of the MAP sensor. They have a picture of it and it looks like it is mounted on the firewall but I still can't locate it.

Please help me.

Junkman or anybody else, do you have a digital EGR valve laying around there? I am in need of one of those but they are one spendy *** part. I am going to be combing the junk yards tomorrow.

Thanks for trying to help guys. JR'* is right, I believe. I was so confused because of the 2 different 3.8 engines. I have VIN C so it is possible that I don't have it. I found on Autozone website where they listed 2 places to find the MAP sensor on the '87-'90 3.8'* but those were for 2 different VIN versions.

If anyone can explain why the MAP sensor is in a different location on these different versions of the same engine, I'd love to know.

Hey guys. Unless the Bonneville is set up much diffenrent than the Buicks and Olds ( which I highly doubt) the 3.8 or 3800 did not use MAP they have MAF which is in the intake tube on 3.8 and on throttle body on 3800. If you read again in your Haynes manual it should say MAF for B-O-P and MAP for Cadillac. But Caddy might not be in the H body manual I forget.

Frankly I'm not even sure if theres one in our LSS w/L67. I only hear people talk about the MAF.

I've got a
86 LeSabre w/LN7 3.0 no MAP
86 Riviera w/LG2/3.8 - B no MAP
87 Delta 88 (spare drivetrain) LG3/3.8 - 3 no MAP
91 Regal L27 3800 dont know havent had to work on it yet
97 Olds LSS L67 dont know havent had to work on it yet

Theres two I dont own
LG3/3.8- C and the L36 ?

How'd I find out I didnt have a MAP in the older cars ? Because I spent half a day trying to find them and finally went to the local Buick dealer and talked to a very helpful mechanic that explained. My H body manual is down in the shop but I have the Riv86-93/Toro86-92, Eld/Seville86-91,Deville86-93/Fleetwood86-92 one right here. Under the emissions and engine control systems
section 5 Mass AirFlow (MAF) sensor (Buick Oldsmobile models)
section 6 Manifold Absolute Pressure ( MAP ) sensor (Cadillac models)

one system measures MASS the other Pressure I dont believe a system needs both but maybe Pontiac did something different to the Buick engine. But Im pretty sure they were the same exact application(except accesory locations) in the LeSabre/Delta 88/Bonneville/Riviera/Toronado/Regency 98/Park Avenue/some Cierras & Centurys and eventually the Regal - thusly know as the " corporate 3.8 "

Well I wouldnt have known either but when I got the Riv it didnt run good and I spent that half day looking for the MAP and other things over. Thats after owning the LeSabre for four years and the wife put 80,000 miles on it. I got a lot of cars and projects - too many really. The Lesabre is the HO if 125HP is really HO. Its just got 9.0:1 compression instead of the 8.?:1 that the 3.8 has. That was driven like I say for years and was replaced but I loved the car and resorected the body and undercarrage but tiger striped the metalic paint job and never got back to sanding it back out and finishing it. Its the 2dr. coupe and a Limited w/ plush red velour pillow seats, quite sweet. I just coulnt part with it. The Riv was sitting for 2 years in a garage parking lot when I inquired and the guy said it wouldnt idle and ran loagy 100 and its mine no title. I looked at it and it has 93,000 and was clean so I hunted down the owner (original) and gave him 100 also and got the title. So 200.00 a feul pump and my spare MAF and it was running great but acted back up again before I got the minor body work and paint done so now that has been setting. I just got carried away but it was on its way to the junk yard so for 200 I didnt feel I was overdoing it. I just dont have the time to do all the superman stuff I think Im going to get done.

I believe the only difference between the LG2 & 3 is the roller and dipstick tube diameter, I believe both had the same outputs except for what ever difference the rollers made both were listed at 150 HP - torque I dont know. I hope to put some boost into the old Riv and stiffen and lower it and do some auto cross but then like I say Im a dreamer that has less brains than time. With the 87 80,000 mile spare drivetrain I have little to fear if the LG 2 gives out. I need more time and ambition. Buying the LSS made life too easy but its "her" car. The 91 Regal is my current driver.

Theres three other cars also but I wont bother going there now one of them is what is now consuming all my spare time. Poor mans GM car collection ! All decent and running just not DONE .

Ours has 150,000 and still runs great. Get this - my 91 Regal has 234,000 highway. You wouldnt believe it, its still clean. That came from original owner ,woman and she drove interstate all but about 10 miles everyday to work so thats why its still like new plus exc. maintentence. Im seeing some of those old SSE'* around here now, on their last legs though, people most likely dont know what they have. Same with the FE3 Olds 88'*. I've never really checked a SSE out. What all makes them different ? Wheels, suspension, final drives, what else ? Anything special in the interior ?
