Hey all,

Was driving my 91 all weekend.... and then this morning in the middle of traffic that bloody SES light came on... and won't go off.

I scanned it, and it came back with Code 63... which is either PCM Error, or "tire size does not match stored size" error (er.. something like that).

So I'm thinking PCM is the issue.... (not the tire size thingy... weird).
Anyways, anyone know how much $$$ that is going to cost?
Also, I probably shouldn't drive her w/ that error, right?
Is this a dealer issue, or can any good mechanic help?

You have the digital EGR, correct? That should be the case in 91. Mushroom looking thing, only yours is towards the firewall side of the engine bay where mine is near the front?

Use some solvent (WD40 works) and a toothbrush to clean the 3 shafts and springs. Squirt it up in there good. Start the car and cook off the WD, then after it cools, use a teflon based light lube that will be temp resistant. This usually works on the digital EGR'*. You may end up having to remove it, but we'll get to that later if we need to.

Those of us with 91-93 FSM'* can walk you through troubleshooting it.....assuming it IS the digital on your car. BTW, the 1990 may also have that EGR if I recall.

That'* the Dood. I've had an EGR error twice since I owned the car, and fixed it both times by cleaning and lubing. Haven't had to remove it yet, but I will remove it and thoroughly clean it the next time.

Ok.... went down to the local CT to get some "teflon based light lube" .. couldn't find anything "teflon based"....

Am I still ok to clean it with WD-40 and burn it off?
Also, do I need to remove the plastic cap on the top, or just soak it down?

One last question, will I need to disconnect the battery to clear the code? or is there a fuse I can pull?

Pull the cap, and underneath, you'll see three shafts and springs. That'* what you're after. Scrub with a toothbrush and WD. Then immediately go drive the car to get it cycling. After a day or two, disconnect the battery to clear the code, then see if it comes back.

Go to the sporting goods section and get Rem Lube (made by Remington). That'* what you want to put on for Day 2.

Ok... I cleaned it w/ WD.... and ran the engine for like 20mins.
Then I disconnected the battery for 10mins and cleared the codes....

I'll try and pick up that "Rem Lube" tomorrow.

Just a few questions....
If the EGR is bad/faulty.... what'* the cost to replace?

What about if it'* NOT the EGR but the PCM... any idea of cost?

EDIT: What does EGR stand for... what does it do?
