Evap cleaning (what spray do I use to clean)
I have read up on replacing the blower control module on my 1988 Bonn SSE and will try to locate and replace the part tonight, I also saw a description on how to clean the Evap with spray but it did not list what type of spray to use. What do I spray in the hole to clean the Evap once I remove the Blower Control Module?
Thanks for any help! 1988 Bonn SSE |
They make a cleaner for that, should be able to find that at a auto parts shop like autozone

I read somewhere, Carb and Choke cleaner.

Personally, I don't like the idea of using any type of caustic solvent on that. Remember, that gets blown it to the car and you will breath that.

Yes, I realize that Dan, but from the source it was mentioned that this stuff is safe to use in the intended environment(evap core) as long as the article was followed.
But, now that you mentioned it, it would seem unwise at this time of year to use such chemical. Yes it does work good for the intended use, but you need to open all the doors, use a few towels on the floor board, and a garden hose. Kinda hard to do when its either raining or -10 degree's outside. |
Best to use the correct stuff. It's a kit that has a nipple that gets added to the core area, you then screw the hose on and fill the core. I don't have a link handy

Do you have an odoer issue when you use the A/C? That is the main reason to clean the evap core.
GM is aware of the odor issue and released a genreal TSB with a procedure and additional part to add to correct this. http://www.justanswer.com/questions/...an-1500-27-000 The whole TSB is down a bit on the page but it does give part numbers and an explanation how to apply the cleaner into the HVAC case. I tried to look online for an aftermarket type cleaner with no luck. You will probably need to call around local parts store and see what they sell. |
Thanks for the update, I replaced the Blower Control Module last night and my blower fan went back to working properly, the car was still warm. This morning when the car was cold, my fan motor was vibrating and making loud sounds, am planning on replacing that tonight. No odor issues but thought I might clean the Evap since I would have it opened up when replacing the Blower Control Module.

Here's the stuff you want to use. http://www.mainsupplies.com/index.ph...roducts_id=218 I can't express it enough, don't spray caustic chemicals in your HVAC. Even if you spray it with water to the point where you no longer smell it, those chemicals are still there. I've seen people recommend this, and it's a very very bad idea. Use the right stuff for the job.

Thanks for the link to the Evaporator Coil Cleaner spray! I would not have enjoyed the odor/damages that another spray could have left behind. I really appreciate the help and info this forum provides.
