Well actually code 43 can be 2 codes.

code 43: Electronic spark control circuit or Knock sensor problem

Now I have had to get my cam sensor replaced due to the cam walking and hitting the sensor. Basically your cam is held in place with a little button and spring against your timing chain cover. I just started to pass a car ( not really pushing it) and my SES light came on due to the cam sensor.

I am not sure what your EGR looks like but if it is like mine on the 90sse, then I was able to remove it and clean it up and it was fine. If you look at Willwren'* sig pic you will see it is a kinda mushroom looking thing. But mine is located at the back of the engine not the front like Will.

As for the knock sensor/electronic spark control, well it may be a good idea to get the codes cleared then see if the light comes back on then check the codes again.
