ok I got the rear door stickin blues :( Is there an easy fix to this or am I looking at replacing some major interior door components?? Any help would be great guys Thanks in advance.

Lemme guess, you can't open the rear doors after they are locked?

I've got the same problem with my passenger rear door. It hasn't opened as long as I've had the car. I don't exactly know any way to get it open at this point. Any advice?

Mine work great, unless someone tries to open the door when they are locked. Just gotta get them open, lube it up in the linkage, and not open the doors locked. Or close them locked. I was unable to get my linkage out, for the life of me.. so that seemed like the best method, because I didn't have space for my door panels anymore.

Here'* my experience:


Neither rear door would open when I bought my car. I used a slim jim to finally get them open so I could remove the door panel and inspect the latches. On the passenger'* side (shown) the original spring completely dissolved due to rust. After about 30 minutes of inspecting the operation of the latch, I came up with the solution shown above. I bought a spring and a #8x32 screw for under a dollar and it did the trick for several months. Now, the latch claws have problems turning so the door needs to be pulled several times to open. the driver'* side latch looked pretty good so it just received a good lube. It'* F*ed up again.

I got lucky though the last time I went to the junk yard. There was a 91 with a good passenger'* side latch that I grabbed and I'm on the hunt for the other one.

Although the problem can be many things, the most common is a weakend or missing spring that prevents the latch from unlocking. Or it'* so rusted that there'* no unlocking at all as the case in the 89 parts car.

What would be the easiest way to jimmy the door open? I've tried everything I know, but it still remains unopenable.

I used a slim jim and others have managed to remove the door panel with the door closed. One dude said that he pounded the area below and rearward of the "plunger" (the thing you push with your thumb). I certainly wouldn't suggest the last choice and it was to difficult for me to remove the door panel without damage.

dang, the only problem i had was that i needed to push the lock/unlock several times for them to lock/unlock. if i did it manually, i had no issues at all. i guess i am lucky.

rjolly: that'* cuz your spring was still there. You probably just had a little crap in there, that made it a little difficult. But yeah, you are lucky.

My mom just about murdered me when she found out I had lock picks.. she'd flip again if I had a slim-jim.. so my only option was to pull the door panel. It isn't hard whatsoever. AS LONG as you have done it before and know all the tricks for your specific door/door panel. If you know how to use a slim-jim, go for it. But if you are inexperienced, then it may be a little difficult to get it working. However it is the best option.

If you have one door that opens, practice on that one.. get the hang of it, then do the closed one. I tried for like two weeks trying to get my latch out to do Randy'* trick.. and I couldn't get it out for the life of me. Once I get my garage sorted out, and I can park part of the car in there, I will start tackling it again.

It was a 15 minute removal of the latch in the junk yard. I did notice one thing though: My 90 did not have the switches for illuminated entry on the rear handles but the 91 in the bone yard did. I had to remove the outside door handle in order to remove the latch. Maybe that'* why you couldn't remove yours????

It worked out great. I bought the door handle too and hope to restore the illuminated entry feature.
