Default Damn Moonroof

Ok... so it'* the first warm day in over 2 weeks. (it'* been raining non stop for 2 weeks). It'* muggy as hell outside, so I just open up the moonroof all the way.
When I park, and press the button to close it, I hear this weird "ticking" sound.

Now... normally the roof works like this... if it'* open and you push the button forward it will close. Push forward again and it tilts up (like a sunroof). Now pushing the button back, it will close. Push back again, and it fully opens. Simple.

Except now when I push the button either way, it goes from sunroof to moonroof, and doesn't stop. ARRRGGGG (If I let go, I can get it to close, but I'm not sure if it'* fully closed or not)

I'm suspecting the motor, unless there is something that causes it to stop inbetween states. Anyone have any idea of the motor or labor cost to repair this? Can I still get the motor for the moonroof??

ARRRGGGG..... too many problems..... not enough money.....

According to the service manual, you have a defective travel limit switch and you have to replace the motor. Do not do this unless you have a service manual that tells you how to synchronize the motor and glass.

fuddyduddy..... don't worry.... I'll leave it to someone who knows what they are doing.

Anyone have a PN for the motor for a 87-91 moonroof motor? and maybe a est cost?
Anyone here every replaced one... or have had one replaced....?

Phoned GM ... they said the PN was 1644318.

Est cost between $300 & $350 Cdn.
Est labor time to install 3 - 4 hours at $80/hr.

So I guess I'm looking at $670+tax on the highside & $540+tax on the low side.

Do these numbers sound about right?

I'm not sure because I've never replaced a sunroof motor before. Cross-check the cost of the motor on GMpartsdirect.com.

I found it at gmpartsdirect.com.... it'* $144 USD.

I'm thinking once I convert USD to CDN, and then pay for shipping and border taxes... I'd pay the same as getting it from the dealer up here.

gmpartsdirect doesn't ship to canada anymore last i checked. www.partszoneonline.com does though and they also have low prices similar to GMPD. I dont work for either, just spreading info to the canadian owners up there ( and there are a lot of you guys).

mine does the same thing, it clicks erraticly and i have to kinda touch the button to close it in line with the roof, my motor was ok , the bars inside that look like screws were stripped causing that problem..i went to gm with it and they said its not even worth fixing, if i have to replace the whole unit in the roof, its around 1200 bucks, now i have to press up on the hole switch so the gears from the motor catch the ones from the sunroof.. its a p.i.t.a..

Try this number. It'* Webesto Sunroof - the manufacturer of your moonroof. Tell them you need a track and rail assy for a 19XX Bonneville and that you can't get from the dealer anymore. Thanks what I did and it works better than new. I think the whole this was shipped for about $200 US.

Thanks... I'll give them a call....

I'm thinking to save labor costs, to bring the car to a place like Apple Autoglass and have them remove/install the roof lining, instead of the GM guys.... Apple'* hourly rates are cheaper, and they probably won't damage it.

And just give the car to the dealership w/o the lining, should be a much easier install for them.
