Camshaft Sensor
 

Looks like the camshaft sensor has gone bad on my car. What exactly does it do, and where can I find it to replace it? My Car is a 1990 Bonneville.

Are you sure its the cam shaft sensor? And does this throw a code 41?

I hooked my computer with the Diacom software into it, and it said Code 41 and the info about it.

There is a very slim chance that its the cam sensor its self.... More than most of the time the Interupter in the cam sprocket has jumped out of place...

The cam sensor is located behind the water pump pulley, and that pulley will have to be removed.... The cam sensor is held in place bu one bolt ( 10 mm I think... I forget..)

You can turn the engine over by hand( 1/2 ratchet and socket... ) look for the Magnet or a hole in the cam sproket...

Ah jeez, you gotta be kidding me.

What happens if I let it go? I will check the cam shaft, but I wont be able to do the project until I got a new valve cover gasket, because, as always those need to be replaced when you pop the cover off, and god knows how long its been since it was last off.

No need to replace the valve cover gasket. I've got the originals on my car, and i've popped my covers off a good 6 or 7 times. No leaks.

The camshaft sensor is not required for the car's function.. but fuel economy and performance will suffer.

On the valve cover gaskets...you might need ot evaluate them. OSG...that's the way they are designed. To be a good gasket that could be reused, if not overtorqued and flattened for too long like most of us find.

Why are you pulling a valve cover ? To replace the magnet you just need to pull the serpentine belt, water pump pully, and the cam sensor.

I dont plan on pulling the valve cover, first im gonna replace the sensor. I'll keep it updated.
