Default Metal in Oil

I was doing a routine oil change when I noticed metal is in the oil. The metal is almost sand like, but there was alot of it in the oil, and it was deffinately metal. Any ideas what is wrong with my car? 1990 bonny

Something is grinding itself to death...

Any number of bearings, maybe the oil pump?

It needs to be looked at.

Hi and Welcome to thee club. How routine is your routine? I agree that something might be self destructing inside your engine. But I was just curious on how many miles you have on this car/engine and how many miles has it been since you changed the oil/filter before this last oil/filter change?

If there is enough to see clearly, I'd be surprised if you had any decent oil pressure once the car is warmed up.

Also expect a hard knocking noise from the motor. This will cause the car to probably stall and what not when it finally gets that bad.

The milage is 89000....I change the oil between 2500 and 3000 miles everytime....The oil pressure was fine, and I didnt notice any strange noises, but I havent used it since I first saw the problem. There was plenty of metal in the oil, when you poured it out you could see it running through.

have you noticed any performance changes by chance? have you notice the car vibrating or anything at speeds greater than 55mph just before you noticed this?

Default oil

Something is definitley wearing in the engine. If the metal is brass colored you may be able to narrow it down.
I once thought my car was doing the same but realized I used the same pan that I used to change the lawn mower oil and it had chips in the bottom of it.
You are always going to get sand in the pan from the oil filter drippings running down the frame into the pan.
Also when I did my Supra rear axle the gear oil had brass metal in it.
Changed the gear oil and the car is doing fine.

When piston rod bearings begin to go, usually you will see it in the oil. The motor will usually run fantastic, because it'* loose and running without resistance.

It is probably worth a pan gasket and a look see to check them. If they are just starting you frequently can have them replaced and run another million miles.
