Air Struts to Conventional

On my 87 olds 98 it is really sagging in the rear and the compressor will run even when no weight is in the car. I know there are multiple leaks as it is possible to hear a slight hiss when there is substantial weight in the car. On the 89 LE it had non-air compressor based struts and it seemed to ride decent enough. It looks like it would be a lot easier to put regular struts in if they matched up.

So my question being has anyone converted to standard struts on an 87-91ish bonneville or olds/buick

thanks

Its easy, just buying strut assemblies.. and bolting them up. However, it won't be any cheaper than just replacing the struts. You can get OEM replacements for $60 or less. Or, you can get some performance struts for $80, or even better performance ones for $120. Your choice, but replacing the air struts, with air struts is the best choice. Willwren posted a link to his site, about replacing the struts on his '93. His procedure will be the same for your's. I just can't remember the link.. it was in one of the current threads, i'll post it when I find it.

EDIT: Found the link.. here you go.

All of the struts on that page are ELC struts, so you can pick your performance and price.

I've probably got the Sensatracs (I forget); they were in the neighbourhood of $80-$90 each Canadian, on sale (buy one, get the second half off, or 25% off each)... Canadian Tire.

Remember that if the leaks are not in the struts, you will still have to repair them if you go with the air struts again.

I got struts from Crappy tire too and they were the air ones for about the 70-80$ mark too.

WIll,

I was chatting with someone about the reflex struts. He said that it's an awful stiff strut. I want a good ride but not too stiff. What's your opinion on them?

No offense bud, but were you talking to a sales rep, or someone who sells these? You have to be wary of those guys.. sometimes they'll skew your purchase to make them more $$$.

No, it was someone at work. That's why I wanted to know from Will, he actually put them in his car.
