Front brakes not releasing...
Hi guys,
I'm having a problem with my Bonnie...
My front brakes started making some metal on metal noise...
I checked the pads and they were worn.
So I bought and installed new pads,
within a few days the left side started hanging up...
when I took my foot off the brake they continued as if I still had my foot on the pedal.
When it did it I was in OK City and I drove it home about 30 miles.
Needless to say the new pad on the left side was ruined as was the rotor.
So I bit the bullet and bought new rotors, calipers, and pads.
I installed them and within a few days I still had the same problem. :(
I pulled the caliper to check it and there was plenty of grease on the retaining pins,
but I forced some more in anyways.
The car seemed fine for a couple of weeks but now it is doing it again.
I'm at my wits end, I have never had a problem like this before...
I mean I'm 50 years old,
and have owned in excess of 70 cars in my life time (OK so I'm a car nut )
I have never had a problem like this before.
Has anyone here had this problem with their Bonnie?
And if you have, what was the solution.
I really love my Bonnie, but if i can't find a fix for this my car might go from a SE to a SELL.
Thanx in advance for any help you can offer.

I had the same issue on an old truck I had. It ended up being the rubber line that goes from the steel line to the caliper. The rubber inside breaks down and acts as acheck valve in the line.
Other than that I would say to check the caliper piston. Make sure the boot is in good shape and extend the piston out a little and peel the boot bach and make sure it does not show any signs of wear.

I agree, replace the line... Actually do both front lines.... The lines are collapsed internally and are preventing the fluid from returning to the master cylinder... This is a common problem as the brake hoses get older

When we get overheated brakes, first thing we do, is check the metal bracket that holds the hose in place. Those usually corrode bad, and clamp the brake hose, which causes fluid to hold pressure in the caliper, overheating. If the hose is cracked, should be replaced then, but usually thats what happens.

Caliper pistons do occasionally freeze up. Before you get done release the bleeder and apply a c clamp to the piston to be sure its moving freely.
You really don't want to risk eating another set of pads / rotors. Its not worth it.
If its stuck get a replacement.

Yes, please report back on what you find as your problem. The most common cause is the rubber brake lines, but calipers can be the problem, too.

sometimes the rubber sleeves wil even jam up on the calipers. Thats whats happening on our Supra right now. PB Blaster to the rescue.

Glad to see that I'm not the only "Old Fart" here.
I'll be going to the parts house tomorrow., I'll let everyone know if it fixes the problem.
