91 oil sending unit replacement help
 

Hey all,
I have a problem with my Bonneville. The oil gauge is always pegged WAY over 80 when I'm driving, and is very shaky around 40 when it is idling. I'm guessing that it is safe to say that the oil sending unit needs replacing since it has been doing it for a year now. Is it a hard task? Does anyone have pics from a chassis manual to show how it is done?

Remove the right front tire. Remove the inner fender liner (easy enough so far?)

You'll see it sticking out the back of the motor, just above the oil filter.

Don't quote me on this, but I have a feeling it can be done w/o removing the tire. The 87-91 gen is pretty easy... it's located on or very close to the oil filter housing. Just for your own knowledge an 87-89 sending unit will not work.. 90-91 is what will.. so if you are jyarding keep that in mind... they have a distinct difference to them... along with the harness pinout either being different or just flat out different. Can't remember, been a while..
