Hey, Its been a while but I'm back and in need of some major experiance. So I trade my Toro for the Financies' Honda and she was leaving her Parents house and said it made a clunk or pop ora "something setting in place" noise and then she noticedit was stalled... Well upon further inspection she noticed that the serpintine belt was shreded and that was that. after putting some gas in it thinking it ran out prolly like 20 mins later it almost started but that was it.. it sputtered and then nothing.. now its home and I have tried my hand at it and as far as I can tell the fuel pump I put in it 2 years ago is still working but I removed the number 1 plug wire and stuck a large gauge wire in it to see if it would spark aginst the plug tip and nothing..

I checked the onboard diagnostics and did not see any codes set except for a no r12 code andthe gear select problem that happens all the time if your in between gears when choosinf for to long...


So re-cap....
appears to be no spark, fuel pump sounds great(2yrs old) plugs newer(winter) original wires, original coil paks, new harmonic balencer, all filters newer Cranks great but no attempt to start, No codes set.

Check your coil packs and ICM connections.

whoda whada??? The ICM connections are where ish? and how does one check the coil packs.. I have a dmm and what not If all else take my weddin money and upgrade to an L67

there'* a way to end up on the wrong side of the little lady

First of all, the ICM connection, and the location of stuff: The coil is what all of the plug wires attach to. That might be bad. The coil sits on the Ignition Control Module (ICM). That might be bad. The only really good way to test either of those is to swap in a known good unit and see if it runs. The problem could be the wire harness connection to the ICM. This connector bolts to the ICM in the middle. Try removing and reinstalling it once or twice. Sometimes they lose contact, apparently. If that doesn't do it, start looking for a new coil unit or ICM to test.

If you do have to look for the coil/ICM, you might also consider upgrading to the Type II (Delco) type ignition system (assuming that you don't have it yet). It'* a better system, and can be found on any newer 3800 engine in the junkyard. There'* a few threads on that swap here somewhere if you search.

So if I understand you correctly I need to unbolt the coil packs and checkmy connectors.. if I mess with that stuff and it still won't start swap in a differant coil pack and or the stuff underneath it(icm) and go from there... what kind of prices do these things bring?

That being said it sounds like this is a common issue when these engines do not sparkand don't throw a code? caseu I think I read somewhere about no spark if the cranksensor isn't reading.. but that might throw a code?

I wondered about the crank sensor too... Not sure if those throw a code, or if they will shut you down while the engine is running..?

I don't know about retail, but I found a set of coils and an ICM on ebay for a total of about $40 shipped. Junkyards will be similar.

The connection that you need to check doesn't involve removing the coils or ICM, just the wire harness in the front. Then reinstall it and see what happens.

Oops... I forgot all about the shredded belt thing.

So I unplugged the crank sensor plug behind the pully and the harness off the coil block.. all looks good.. cleaned the grease off plugged back in and nothin... :( I guess my next step is to get a coil packand the thing under it? Is this what a shop would do? anyone think I could sneak them from murrays unto the car and if it don't werk return them?
