SSE died on me today.
I was about 4 blocks from my house and heard a rattling noise under the hood.
Turned the corner and it died. Opened the hood and the serpentine belt looks like it jumped over one track and split about 1/8 in. off the edge. This frayed edge looks like it took out the top blade of the crank sensor.
Pulled it home and it got dark out so I can't check it out.
Anyone know why the belt would do this and how hard is the crank sensor to align?
I have the short bypass belt on it because a few years ago my AC compressor bearing went out and with the leak in the system it wasn't worth replacing.

tensioner
don't know either its dark out. The belt did still have tension on it though. Just moved over one notch and cut off the edge.
But I did notice the tensioner plastic wheel has some grooves worn into it.
Its been this way for a while.
Also I need to find an A/C compressor and get rid of the bypass belt.
Anyone have one?

OK I just tore it down. Heres what happened.
Auto Zone water pump bearing went.
Took out belt which took out crank sensor = died on road.
Yeah I'm Pi$$ed. They should have made a guard for the sensor.

back
OK the SSE is back to life.
After changing the crank sensor I decided to index the crank blade for blade just to see if everything was ok.
Boy I'm glad I did. One tooth was bent out 3/16 in and would have taken out the new sensor had I started the car.
Took a while to tweak / bend back into place (PITA).
Then I went out to the yard and got a compressor so I could run the proper belt.
Boy what a PITA to line up the upper bolt on the AC compressor.
almost lost it until a neighbor came over to help.
