1989 Pontiac Bonneville SSE electrical switching issue.
I recently purchased a 1989 Bonneville SSE drove great 250 miles home, no issues. I was messing with all the driver information and aircon controls and I pressed the off button on the fan controls then something behind the dash starts clicking. Headlights would click and off with whatever was clicking behind the center dash. As well as lights in the cabin and the light in the engine bay. Pressing seat controls can increase the clicking frequency, for some reason messing with the dimmer can cause the clicking to fluxuate. It's intermittent though, only acts up when you start pressing things. Doesn't affect starting the car or anything, but want to figure it out. All I've done so far is disconnect the ac control, and clean the terminals/bolts on the battery but nothing changes. If anyone has pointers or has had this happen to them let me know, I'm much more mechanically inclined than electrically, although I don't mind probing with a multimeter.

It might be worthy to note that fan speed settings also stopped working and blower would operate only on high, once even not turning off after the car was off.

Check your ground splice packs inside the bottom left kick panel.
Power windows acting funny too? Door locks? |
I don’t recall if the door locks and windows were affected. I know the security beep system beeps extremely fast. I’ll double check those grounds when I get home from work today

I’m still at work but I uploaded a video to YouTube here’s the link.

Yeah windows and locks are affected aswell

Started going through the fuses on the box and while they might have slightly changed some things it one fuse couldn't halt the issue. It's almost like something that provides constant power is getting stuck and trying to click off. I wasn't able to find that left kick panel I removed the side cladding to the left of the pedals but not much is there. I'm electrically a noob sadly, it seems like some main power source possibly a relay is sticking then trys to open but get stuck closed. I'm not sure. I have the dealership service manual and was reading through what supplies power to the different circuits

Calling it a night I located the ground(g200) but it is in a tricky location behind the dash. I pulled the lower portion of the dash, but I would have to pull the upper portion off to be able to find the ground. Is there any other easy checks I can do to figure this one out?

I can't see YT videos at work. Did you find a ground splice pack in the door jam area?
|
Not in the door jam area on the wiring schematic it shows it slightly above the dash
