Default 1987 Bonneville Fuel Pressure Problem

Hello All,

I'm new to the forum because I'm looking to get my old 87 Bonnie running again.

In 2001, she died and I never got around to figuring out what the problem was. I had 2 cars so I just let her sit in the back yard exposed to the elements.

Well, now I want to see if I can get her up and running again.

I put a new battery in and the motor cranks but won't start. Interior lights, door chime, and gauges seem to work.

I put a fuel pressure test gauge on the fuel rail but there'* no pressure. I can't hear the fuel pump...pumping.

So I'm thinking that maybe the fuel pump, relay, or PCM is dead.

I've read on the forum that there should be a fuel pump relay bypass wire near the battery that'* either green or grey but I can't seem to find it.

The only green wire I see is connected to the horn.

Would someone be so kind to post a picture of what this wire looks like and where it is?

Also, where is the the fuel pump relay? I removed the hush panel and look under the glovebox but I didn't see anything that looks like a relay.

Of course any advise is appreciated as well.

Thanks!

Welcome to the club. I'm sorry to say I'm not very knowledgeable about that year. After sitting for a while it would be a good idea to change the fuel filter and you may have to look at replacing the fuel pump. Good luck on getting it back on the road. You will have to post some pictures after your done.

Default Fuel Pump Prime Lead

Does anyone have a picture of where the fuel pump prime lead is on an 87 Bonneville. I've looked for it near the air cleaner and near the battery but I don't see a free connector of any kind.

What color is the wire?

Make sure you use a fused jumper when connecting this. It is a direct link to the pump and if the pump is back it could cause some sparking. In this picture it will be between the battery and the fender. It is a wire with a connector on the end of it.

Hmm, it seems that my 87 Bonneville has a slightly different layout from the picture. For example, on my car the ignition coils are towards the back of the engine.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics of the battery area and the area close to the air filter. Where is the fuel pump prime connector? What color should the wire be?
