On the morning onf September 22nd, 2004 at 8am, my car, 1992 Pontiac Bonneville with the standard 3.8 litre V-6, died.

In a way I sort of knew this was going to happen. She had been making some weird noises but I didnt think anything of it. Im used to it, but this noise was one that didnt go away, nor could I put it out of my mind by turning up the radio...

Well, while on the way to work yesterday morning, my mother noticed my battery life dying and she and I started smelling smoke. So I pulled off the interstate and she stalled out across the street from a gas station. I popped the hood and immediately saw flames. Long story short, when the fire dept. arrived the car was engulfed in flames. The hood wouldnt open so they had to pry it open to get to the engine, all the while another fire fighter opened the hose onto the interior of the car therefore soaking just about everything inside.

Things could have been worse. We could have died in a firey explosion on the interstate. I just thank God that we made out when we did.

She is a total loss. Just about everything inside the engine compartment is melted or disfigured in such a way it brought a tear to me eye. I dont have insurance on the car, so the next thing to do now is starting looking for another one. Im a Pontiac man so, you can only guess what my next car will be.

So long, Bonnie. I will miss you and know that you will always be loved and remembered.

Sorry to hear that. I too lost a 92 SE recently, just over a month ago.

Glad you were not hurt though.

Thanks guys. It could have been a whole lot worse. I had just woke up and didnt even realize what was happening. If it wasnt for my mother, I would kept on and only God knows what would have happened on that interstate.

**** Im gonna miss that car. Its like your first love. Im gonna get another one, but it wont be the same.

Some say it was the alternator. When I opened the hood, I saw flames jumping out from where the belt turns...

Oh well.... I needed a new Bonnie anyway. :(

Im taking pics today, Ill post em sometime soon.

I feel ya man, it'* no fun to lose 'em by fire either. :? Maybe think about some insurance next time... it saved by butt (financially) when my Bonny burned up! Of course liability insurance is state law here, but most ppl that I know carry the optional Comprehensive to cover those unpredictable (and sometimes unfortunate) acts of God!
