i fully disagree..i like four strokes especially 4 stroke 250'* or bigger..
cause at 285 pounds and 6'6 a 250 4 stroke can handle and perform better for me than a 250 2 stroke
i personally like the sound of 4 strokes over 2 strokes also
to each there own..but i was raised on 4 strokes being > than 2 strokes

a 250 2 stroke can make the same power as a 500 4 stroke.
4 strokes:
Pros:
more power (of course 2 times displacement or close to)
more torque
improving constantly
less rebuilding
no mixing gas
less pollution
easily converted
Cons:
more expensive
heavier (bigger engine)
more moving parts, therefore IF something goes wrong, will most likely screw up more than one thing
not same thrill (IMO) as two stroke
PRO+/-CON:engine braking....con in my book
sound
smell
2 strokes:
Pros:
lighter weight
kick
less parts
more power for half (close to) displacement
thrill
sound
smell
cheaper exhausts
Cons:
pollution
rebuild often
class will smoke you most likely
not as easily converted from mx to trail
mix gas
PRO+/-CON: won't be around much longer

U gotta think also.. a big fast 2 stroke (I.E. Banshee, ect) those motors come out of Street bikes. The older 4 strokes.. like a 250x for instance came out of ATC'*.. not high power machines.. and motors like the 350 thumper in a Warrior was made for a "sport" atv. Sport at the time anyway..
Some 4 strokes are close to 70hp stock now! a Banshee made around 38hp. A LT500r not even 45hp... maybe not even 40hp

i saw a recent test(~2008 or so?) that pitted the quadzilla against a 660 or 700cc raptor(?), and even with a slippling clutch, the otherwise stock 'zilla still beat *** on the raptor.
not bad for being ~20 years old IMO.

I had a raptor and my buddy had a 500r.. The 500 had more top end but torque was close, Raptor prolly edged it out a little. But the 500r is the biggest baddest 2 stroke Ever.. and a Raptor is a trail/sport bike. And the power is so linear on the raptor that my girlfriend can ride around on it all day.. That 500 tired me out and fell apart as i was riding it. lol.
