Default Headers finally in

Well, after about 4 hours of fighting, cursing, sweating and banging my headers are finally in. I had one of our local GP club members Tim King put them in at his Midas shop. The headers themselves went on pretty easily and a lift definately helps however the tranny dipstick and the SLP design are NOT compatible. I drove about 60 miles to Tim'* shop in Dayton (I'm in Columbus) and the dipstick was the last piece to put in when we found out it wasn't going to fit. There was NO amount of bending going to help us. The dipstick came up right where the crossover meets the downpipe. We ended up just plugging the dipstick whole with a bolt and i'm going to get a W-body stick to place in it.

Now for the fun part. The headers definately give the car a meaner stance. At idle its not to noticlble and in the car when I get on it i can tell a deeper note in the exhaust but the fun is from the backside of the car. That exhaust really sounds mean from the backside. I can hear my SC whine a lot more now as well.

To be honest I was not real impressed with performance gains at the start, the car felt sluggish getting back on the highway and then I remembered that the car needed to do a bit of learning. Well, it learned quite a bit on the 60 mile trek home. Every pass i made the car would get better and better. By the time I got home I had a big grin on my face. I then autotapped the car and found my boost had dropped about 2PSI but I was still getting KR in the 3-4 range. Now I was perplexed, I had rockers, headers, CAI and I was still getting KR! I had tried an AFC 2.0 with no visible results so i was at a loss. I went to Scott'* and he hooked me up with an AFC 1.0 to try as we had been having som problems with the 2.0 lately. Let me just say that this car woke up instantly with that on it. It has never run so well, I taped a few logs with 0 KR and the car is pulling like a demon now. Even with the Bonnevilles agressive pcm I managed to smoke my tires all the way through first gear and into second, the torque steer is unreal. I'm going to have to get an LSD soon I fear.

Anway, that was my trip, here are the pics.

Looks good. Pipes are a little smaller than TOG headers but your performance probably won't hurt.
The W body dipstick will work.
What setting did you end up with for the AFC?

Still dialing it in, currently at 103 percent but looks like it still may be a little lean. Going to try 104 later today. 103 gives me 02'* around 930-940, Scott would like them to be 940-950 without an IC.

Got them from INTENSE, 599 for headers, 179 for cat, 69 or so for the clamp/gasket kit. install was about 150.00 from a club member so your dollar may vary there...

930-940 is PLENTY rich. If you aren't getting KR don't go any richer, you won't make any more power. The leanest you can get without KR usually makes the most power. Lean is fast. If your getting a little KR maybe go up to 104%, but thats all.

Last night i was getting .3 here and there but not bad except at shift points where im hitting about 2-3 now. Not sure if something is banging on the shift causing it but the .3 to .5 here and there is telling me the car still is running a bit lean. Got an SES light today with P0137 and P0140. Looks like the rear 02 spoofer isnt working although i dont think that would have any input on the KR.
