Rustled up a 98 Aurora
Well, I added a 2nd car to my stable today. Well, not exactly as it is for my girl, but it is my car in my name none the less. Anyway, after doing some extensive searching and test driving, I picked up a 98 Aurora with 141k for $3500. Not too shabby as it was in great shape, clean, ran nice and smooth. It has some nice leather, sunroof, and a decent Bose system(makes her happy at least). I noticed it must have had some work done to it as there is no longer an emblem on the hood and I noticed a couple light hints of overspray in a few inconspicuious places. This didn't bother me as it is a pearl white car and whoever did the work did a great job of matching and blending- which I understand is tough with pearls. Anywho, here are a couple pics.
She asks me if I'm jealous- and I can't lie and say I am a little bit. But me and my Bonneville are still tight. I just want that 4.0L V8... A man can dream
The Aurora was the first car we test drove. After spending the day hitting a bunch of lots and testing a dozen other cars, the Aurora just kept looking sweeter and sweeter. I was surprised at how much "junk" cars are selling for at many of the lots. Check engine lights on, airbag lights, broken dash parts, missing *****, dead power locks/windows, idle like a choking horse, etc. So many cars look good from the street but end right there.

Thats a great looking Classic you have there. Congrats. $3500 is such a steal for a car that delivers so much.

You gonna throw a hood emblem on her?

That'* a very sexy car! My guess is that the hood was repainted because of a faulty primer GM was using during that era. The paint sometimes peeled off. That could be why it was repainted. (and just forgot to put the emblem back on)

That hood herpes issue is less of a problem on the Classic then the 2nd gen. Coulda been fender bender at some point. Anything is possible!
You can find emblems on Ebay very easily. Say, does it have the Autobahn package?

Yea, I really enjoy my 4.6 Northstar. I noticed I got better gas mileage after the first month of driving. It was too easy to mash the gas at first.

I'm loving this car. My girl doesn't drive as hard as I do, so she should get pretty fair mileage. So far the computer says just over 20mpg city which is better than mine. I can't wait to take that car on a trip sometime, it is such a smooth comfy ride.

The 4T80E trans is silky smooth, under normal load you can hardly feel the shifting. Its wonderful and, a far cry from the rough and tumble ride I get out of my CompG.
Luckily for me, my Aurora is back on the road, and I'm soaking in every second.
Have you checked for Autobahn yet? (3.71 gears, 140mph limiter, V-rated tires)

I have not. I assume there are certain RPO codes to look for? Any idea what they are? The car had the original window sticker with it, would it be listed there? I would check the 140mph limiter now if it weren't wet & rainy. Tires are mismatched and will need replacement come winter, but will suffice til then. My girl is out with her mother for most of the day, so I have some time to play with the car today.
Any trouble spots I should look out for? The dealer said they replaced the intake manifold- not sure if that is common problem or if the saleslady even knew what part was replaced. I'm going to wash the engine bay out so I have a clean slate to keep an eye out for any future issues. Thanks in advance.
