Taking the 2-speed out. Was going to put a 400 turbo in before I took it to the body shop but ran out of time and winter showed up. The 2-speed leaks bad. I changed the gasket twice and changed the dipstick tube o-ring (don't think it'* the right size). I drove it over to the shop. longest drive it'* had since '78. I have a Borg Warner out of a '64 2+2 that just waiting to go in.

dont think that is going to hold up to your power, and pretty sure turbos do better with autos. i only have 400hp, i traded my 700 to a guy with an old monte, went through all the trouble of swapping everything had it stock rebuilt. thought its the toughest gm makes it will be fine. only lasted a few months. had it built by a race shop and that was alot better but the first time i tried a full power launch this happened. took it back and had it done again and that time its been good, those guys really know what they are doing, but i think you are going to need it built by a race shop and get them to put a racing scattershield bellhousing on it.

The stock short shaft Turbo 400 has a thinner/weaker belhousing than long shaft Turbo 400. They still need a aftermarket belhousing installed. Here'* some pictures of the different belhousings. The Long shaft has more bracing. I thought I had pictures but couldn't find them. When I do I'll post them.

Here'* a couple of short shaft 400 Turbo'* The dirty one in the truck bed was a long shaft originally. You can see the webbing in it as compared to the stock short shaft.

nevermind, i was thinking you were going to turbo your engine, didnt have enough coffee before posting this morning.
the bell housing is a weak spot seems like in all of them, its just aluminum. hard to believe they came in big trucks and big block muscle cars. after being built a second time though with a custom high stall, manual/auto VB combo, and a much bigger everything from the trans to the tires, lasted like 8 yrs i think of mostly track use, until last year when i started driving it more on the road. got on it and the stupid plastic governor gear broke and smoked the clutches.
