Default Bangand then crunch

Those were the words the guy I bought this from used to describe what happened when he started it up after he attempted to change LIM gaskets w/o any information.

This makes the fifth Regal for me in under a year Green and silver GS 1998 99K on the clock. Needs some motor work.

Interesting you said that. I felt like it wasn't too much major stuff overall. Hoping for a bad lifter or pushrod at the worst. That'* a one or two night job. Cluster/hud will be another night. Then it could be streetable.... I think. lol

Had enough power to spin them up in the muddy spot it was parked in. I thought the trans was slipping..lol

Let us know what you find with the 'bang'. I've been scratching my head trying to figure out what it could be since you introduced us to this project elsewhere.

AFter thinking about your problem I came up with this. If something fell in to the valley and then came threw the cam, this could cause the valve to go behond it'* limit, CRUNH, there goes the seal. As well as possibly bending a push rod. I would pull the rods and check them. If one is bent check that seal.

looks like fun. i got a car from my old boss a couple years back, it was a 91 talon tsi. motor was rebuilt and the cars timing belt snapped bending valves and what not. pistons where cool besides a couple lil dings but nothing really bad... my boss rebuilt the head and i got it all torn apart after sittin in his yard for over a year. lol sorry to be off topic i did get it running and loved that car so i know this will be a goo project...and remember the key word is fun lol i love that stuff lol

Well, what was making all the noise?

Edit: Was just looking at your pictures. WOW, I've never seen a piston do that. I was wonder how you got it off the connecting rod.

I just tore into a 02 Regal LS this weekend, all the way to taking the LIM off and changing the gaskets, he probably wasn't carefule about keeping that valley clean, he might have also gotten some coolant in the oil, we had to clean up a little that spilled in and change the oil when we were all done

This couldn't have been a coolant in the oil problem. That would have caused a rod bearing or main bearing to fail, this was probably caused by KR and predetonation. It'll chip pistons, and from there they can break up..

Tonight will be getting it on the road.
