Yes you're right. It'* my 79 Formula Firebird Ws6 with the 15 x 8 aluminum snowflake wheels.
Last year the best I could get out it was a 9.0 sec 1/8 mi run. A bit disappointing after racing the Bonne which I scored an 8.9 sec run. :(
Definitely a sweeter, and more powerful in the upper rpms without any loss in the low end.
.....and NO more high speed driveshaft bounce. It used to be a problem at speeds above 120 mph.

Both 403'* kicking out about 400 hp.
Both 3 speed automatics. Not all WS6 cars of that year came with the 400 Pontiac engine....just the ones with 4 speed manual trani'*.

Yeah, that'* what I thought, but I wasn't sure. For some reason I was thinking the T/A would have the 400. Anyways wicked rides, I had the same eng/tranny combo in my Formula and they are rock solid.

/drool. I imagine it must have been a pain taking all of the emissions stuff they crammed on those 70s cars off. Air injection, yum.

It didn't have air injection.
EGR - gone
Cat - gone .......idle speed went up 200 rpm when that came off.
Carb - recalibrated
Distributor - recalibrated
Edelbrock intake manifold and Cam
3.08 rearend.....and so on....
My next mod will be aluminum heads and roller rockers.
