Default 'Gold' drums. or are they yellow? :? (Duplicoat MetalCast)

This is a purely selfish vanity question from anudder pic ho.

Well, i painted the drums this weekend. I didnt have enough caliper paint left over to do the drums b/c they were in rough shape and i woulda needed about 4 coats of the caliper paint. So i took someones sugggestion and got the MetalCast Paint from Walmart. JUSt one problem, The 'Gold' was not actaullly gold, its called anodized yellow. IT almost looks gold, kinda like mustard. :? (Not grey poopon either :P ) They dont match the calipers now but it looks good! My Dilemma, do i paint the calipers to match or do i use whats left of my caliper paint now that the drums have a good basecoat (Like 5 coats) and paint the drums? Take a look at the pics, its kinda hard to tell b/c its dusk but the drums clearly dont match the other gold. Im leaning towards painting the drums again, its just a hard choice b/c they look so good now! :?
Give me all your input! Oh yeah, one more thing- look at the center caps on the wheels. I just got my black ones and they are on the back wheels. what should i go with, black or Red?

You already know I like 'em. I'd probably paint the drums too if there was enough paint.

I'd go with the black center caps. Don't want too much color on your wheels. But that'* me.

You could probobly get away with a coat or two of the caliper paint on the drums if you have enough to do 2 coats. I dunno if one would cut it but anything to dull the color to make it look more similar. Dont get me wrong it looks great as it but I am sure you wont let it stay like that eh

I hear ya russianpolarbear, It looks great just not on my car.
i should have enough to do 2 coats. that shiite is wicked! i would suggest anyone that uses it wear rubber gloves. I literally had to sand that crap off my hands. and it was still noticeable for 3 days!

Black center caps and tone down the 'gold' drums are the general concensus so far...

Default Your Rims and Tires

I would like to purchase a set of rims like yours and wanted to know if you would share some information. I want know how does the car run with them i.e., do they make a lot of road noise, do the wheels turn with-out rubbing the wheel housing, are they very heavy, cost and place of purchase? I was looking at your pictures this past summer and would like to purchase a set before next spring. Please provide me with any info. that you could.

I think your rims are the best looking set in the Bonneville Club. Thanks, Jesse

well thank you Jesse. ITs been a while since i updated my pictures, i DID end up painting the drums gold with the left over caliper paint. It looks even sweeter!

I'll hafta get pics this weekend before the weather turns nasty.

now, to your questions(*)

I'm assuming you know what they are from my signature. I got them from Tirerack and had them shipped locally to 'Tire world' or something that was close to my work. Paid approx. $1,800.00 for the setup. Installation was free. The wheels came with 2 sets of center caps, ones with red lettering and ones with black and 2 sets of valve caps one with red one with black lettering. They are sweet and in the 6 years i owned the car, heads never turned like they do now unitl i got those wheels.

The ride: the overall diameter of the wheel and tire is only 1 or 2 mm'* differnt from stock so my speedo is about 1 1/2 mphs off at 100MPH. no biggy. The wider wheels have no issue at all as far as clearance is concerned.

AS for road noise, its never been an issue b/c i cant hear them over my exhaust and stereo. Ii cant even hear my exhaust over my stereo! I do notice more of a vibration when first starting out until the tires get warm. I didnt notice that on my old set, but they wre top of the line Michelins too, I couldnt afford them again with the wheels too. (the michelins were $110 MORE for EACH tire). The COntientals seem to be holding up decent, i just dont like the side wall. ITs ugly IMO.
Oh, they are about a pound or 2 heavier then the stock Ghetto Gold Diamond spoke rims that were on there.

The prices is going to be a rough estimate.

270ea. for wheels
170ea for tires. WR rated

I dont see the Ravia II'* on tire rack anymore. They still have the Ravias which are a one piece design and alot cheaper. The differnce is mine have a stainless steel lip and the Ravias are the same color all the way out. (a polished gray)

Good luck and let me know if ya gots any other questions.

peace...

Those brakes are gorgeous!! Ever considered painting your grill like i did? A silver honeycomb would be sweet with your lights on the front, and the wheels you're rolling on.
