Default Pics of the wife'* ride all cleaned up (and the story)!

This is the first time I've posted pics of our truck. It'* a 97 C1500. Just a 1/2 ton, short box, work truck. It'* as stock as you can get 'em! No A/C. Just automatic and power steering! It'* just the way I like it. Very easy to repair...

We bought in January, 2004 from a local mechanic. He bought it at an auction when it had the upper half of engine missing. It was a theft recovery (insurance company had it at the auction). So, instead of putting another 4.3 Vortec back in it, he put a 305 in it from a donor truck. Transmission to match, too. Engine and trans only have 60K on them.

It'* given us our share of issues in the 15 months we've owned it, or 13,000 miles. Rear axle went out on it (carrier got fried!!). I swapped out the entire rear-end from a junk yard donor. Then, four months later the transmission developed a nasty leak that I couldn't identify. Had the trans in and out twice to change the torque converter seal, rear seal and pan gasket. Still wouldn't stop leaking. So, finally took it to the tranny shop. They had it in and out three more times to determine that the case was cracked. Crack was so small that it would only swell just enough to leak when hot! Otherwise, had to do brakes, Class III hitch, etc.

My wife drives it daily. And I use it on the weekend to fix up our rental properties, etc. My father-in-law and I have made many long trips in it to pick up tractors around the east coast (he restores old White GT Series tractors...we buy them on ebay!!). As much as I've had to do to, I absolutely love it. Fits us very well.

It was in dire need of a bath and stunk on the inside (wet Golden Retreiver smell and just general winter smell! LOL).

Enough ramble....

Hey thanks guys for the comments...

I just cleaned it up yesterday. Got the "once every six months wax job!"

It is definitely a 305. There is NO visual difference between a 305 and 350. The ONLY way you can tell is by getting the casting number off the block (stamped on the block behind the passenger side head, into the block). Then, take that number and do a search on http://www.mortec.com/. The easiest way to get at the casting numbers is to have the transmission removed. Otherwise, it'* a real bear to get to those numbers.

As for Cheyenne or Scottsdale....I think that badging went away in the late 80s. I'm not exactly sure. That'* something good to research, though!
