you don't want a 3.4...very troublesome

keep it stock

or get a Bonneville and then we can talk

but if you have the time and the funds you do have options...

go to:
Sinister Performance, LLC.

or google for sinister performance

very good company to use!

they have support for your car to swap other motors into your car

i have a bonneville already , the lumina is my second car and the 3.4 your talking about is the dohc , i know those things aren't worth anything. i was talking about the 3.4 from the impala, monte carlo ,grand am. its basically an updated 3.1

I would go 3.4ohv, but I don't know how much (if any) rewiring would be needed.

If you can find a good 3400 cheage the lower intake gasket before you put it in. But its easy to go from a 3100 to a 3400.

I had a Lumina Z34 for alot of years...other then eating alternators it was a great car..I chipped it and it really ran great right up to the time a semi lost a mudflap and I swerved to miss it on the interstate at 75...back end came around and I rolled it five times..some how I walked away from it

some how some way i mis diagnosed my lumina all that was wrong was a very loud valve tap(maybe the fact that it was 19 degrees out that day helped)but i took it to work flushed engine added a bottle of lucas and 10W40 full synthetic and it sounds brand new. it was time for an oil change any way and the car only has 78,000 miles on it.

The 3100/3400 are good motors, as long as the lower intake gasket is still good. But they will tick and tap when they are cold.
