The dangers they face...
This is a pretty intense dash-cam video from a Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper'* crusier. I dont even know where this car came from, or how it missed one crusier and smoked the other one right in front of it, or what the HE*L happened to make the driver lose control like that. Luckily, the Trooper that was standing behind the car only got the wind knocked out of him, and a few cuts and bruises. I don't know what happened to the one that was sitting in his vehicle when it got hit, but at the very least a pretty bad neck injury.

The speeding car didn't actually hit him, no. The car hit the crusier he was standing behind, and the crusiers back bumper knocked him in the legs and put him on the ground. He probably would have been killed if he hadn't reacted as fast as he did. He had a little time to try and jump out of the way, so just the bumper hit him. Regardless, it still knocked him to the ground. I'm sure it didnt feel too good.

Wow, that looks like a case where the driver of the white car was too busy watching the side of the road and tracked right to the police car.

The guy in the white car looks like he tried to make a move too fast and the Semi was there and the guy jumped lanes and lost control... The cop turns his head a secone before impact.... this leads me to believe he heard the tires .... Either way he was very luck...

This happened to a couple friends of mine. A State Police Sgt, John Burright (our kids go to school together, and his wife and I were volunteer parents at school for two years of Kindergarten) and an Albany Police Officer, Jason Hoerauf, who I met several times while I worked with the APD in strategic planning.
Jason didn't make it, and John is still in a coma. Since 2001. Jason'* funeral procession had police and fire vehicles from all over the west, numbering in the thousands. The guy that hit them had a suspended license.

Umm. I don't know where anyone heard that the trooper walking alongside the cruiser was only "bruised up", but that is unfortunately very much not the case. Both of his legs were badly crushed when the car slammed him into the guard-rail, and he nearly had to have one amputated later. He also had other minor abdominal injuries. The trooper in the cruiser that was hit had minor neck injuries(thank god that the Vic is so tough) and the driver of the other car was had only minor injuries.
I remember seeing the incident on the news here in Columbus when it happened. The most impressive part of the video is left out though. After the cruiser is hit, there were about fifteen cars that stopped to see if they could help. Unfortunately, the bad part of this is that none of the people that directly witnessed the accident stopped.

Wow. Sadly, I was misinformed then. I happen to be in the recruitment process for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and it was told to me and about 7 other individuals in our recruitment group that the trooper who was knocked to the ground only sustained minor injuries. There are several other dash cam clips on the OSHP website; Its possible that the trooper who I asked about it may have thought that I was referring to a different video. Sorry for the misinformation everyone, and thank you for clearing that up GonneVille. Did they provide any kind of an explanation on the news as to why the white vehicle hit the crusier?
