GP GT gets a top swap
One of the local Mass guys had wanted to top swap. He cruised in Friday afternoon as an NA and drove out Sunday early in the evening supercharged.
Friday night we yanked the motor and cleaned down the engine bay a bit. It needed it.
Something missing in there?
Saturday was try for the start up. Came close.
VIP: Very Important Picture
Ready to head back in
Ran into Sun with the last few things to hookup. All in all it was busy and good. Car started, ran like a champ and is now topswapped with 1.9 rockers, Plog, new oil pan (rusted), etc.

No write up with pics. A write up mabey, I'm swapped overall in life at the moment.
Basics the way Brian choose to go was tear the UIM, LIM and heads off. Supercharged heads, intake, SC, fuel rail, SC coil pack bracket and tensioner, SC idler pulley and a couple other little things.
We were hauling butt on this one. I had suggested he have the intercooler heat exchanger and pump mounted to the car and ready to go. Unfortunately when he arrived he had
Top swap parts, radiator, wiring harness and a bunch of other things. Literally once the motor and car seperated, I worked on the motor and he got the car. Things came back together Sat afternoon and started being hooked back up and figured out.
Overall it'* not hard and could have been done in the car. There were enough things that needed to be done that it worked out to be worthwhile pulling the motor.

Being on the tight timeframe and him already doing some tuning (he has a DHP) I left the tuning to him. The swap itself took the weekend.

Bill.
I your opinion, what should someone all have to do the swap? Do you favor a top-end vs. a whole motor swap? What about the trans/axles?

To do a topswap you are going to want to research it to death. Know the pros and cons. Know how to tune your car yourself.
To do this swap, we had (L67 is the engine code for the SC motor)
L67 Heads
L67 LIM
Modified Fuel Rail
L67 Injectors
L67 Coil pack bracket
L67 Tensioner
L67 Idler
L67 Harmonic Balancer
L67 Belt
A complete motor would only need to be dropped in, an SC wiring kit installed (2 wires), pcm updated for the correct file and fuel lines converted to the new locations.
On the transmission. Interesting tidbit, the 4T65E and 4T65E-HD is the same basic transmission with a few exceptions.
Gear ratio
Differential
Diff cover
Output shaft.
Passenger axle length
All these items can be swapped relatively easily except the gear ratio. And that is not overly necessary.
