Default Torque axis mount drilling

A topic not long ago hit upon the torque axis mount and Wren said.."that'* oil filled". Sure looks to me like it'* a big blob of rubber.

Let'* see what we find.. It'* the first episode of Bonneville Myth Busters!

Told ya so.

Old, green, and grumpy, but nearly always right.

Did you drill through metal before you struck the black gold?

After that drilling, Tony was scared to hold onto that mount again...you can see him hesitating. lol He let go at the right time.

Smelled like used motor oil.

I too always thought it was liquid filled, my original front mount was really spongy and loose.

Pdad, your car doesn't have a torque-axis mount.

He doesn't. But is his large front rubber mount filled as well?

He does say original front mount. He'* done the solid front mount.

I believe they are oil filled as well. If Wimpy..I mean Tony comes back soon..I'd be willing to check that out.

The odd part was the metal. The outter is rubber..then metal..then liquid.

The metal is there because it is what actually contains the fluid. Basically, what you've got is a cartridge of fluid surrounded by rubber. The fluid is there solely to absorb vibration by sloshing around (so to speak....), the rubber and metal provide the actual support for the motor.

Without the metal, the oil would have to be injected into the hollow mount, and would either leak right away from the hole, or would leak if the mount ever became cracked.
