Default Nexen N5000 review

On here and on the web there are very few reviews of these tires, especially in the snow. Here is my two cents. Nexen is a Korean company, and the tires are made there (as are MOOG parts). There most popular offerings are the N3000, N5000, and N7000. I am talking about N5000s here.

I have a 2000 Bonn SLE, which take stock, a 235/55/17 tire. These are rather wide, which poses a problem in the snow. I had Kelly Nav. on there, which lasted about 70k miles. I had some Goodyear Eagles also. Recently, I had a set of N5000s put on.

Road noise
At least as good as the Goodyear, and slightly quieter than the Kellys. Highway is not really noticeable.

Ride
Similar to the Kelly, and much better than the Eagle (sorry to say). Less bounciness and more accepting of bumps on the highway.

Rain
Performed as well as the Kelly, but i think it is more of a rain tire than either or the other two. Wide rain channels... I never did fishtail or skid.

Snow
The only issue is starting from a dead stop. You do spin a little if you accelerate aggressively. There is little two no fishtailing, and stopping is good. I just started with them, Michigan in December, and I am pleased with the snow performance, given the wide 235 tire size. The N5000 was better than both the Kelly and Goodyear in the snow.

Wear
Just got them, and I will update as I have more information.

I will not try to argue that these are Michelin tires, but I think they are reasonable if you need a decent daily driver tire, all season. I got mine from Pep Boys on a steal of a sale ($125 -> $85 per), but they can be had in the above size from Tirebuyer.com for about $102 each, free shipping.

Hope this helps if you are considering these tires; I am pleased with them.

Default An Update

The only thing I have noted that I think is inferior in the comparison is the ride between 35 - 45 mph. The tires, for some reason, are more bouncy. Have a couple thousand miles on them, and that is the only thing that sticks out.

Also, funny story. My wife got in a car accident one week after the tires were installed. Hit wheel-to-wheel. Popped the brand new tire, so I ended up buying a new one....again.

Hope this helps. I will try to update on mileage/wear later this year.

Sadly, the Bonneville is now gone. No more updates as to the tire life/performance. Still, I think they are very good tires. Cheers.

I just got a set of Nexen tires for my car. I would say its really bang for the bucks. Performance wise, its comparable with other known tire makers. Styling is also nice. I believe it is made from Thailand, the country is also known for their rubber trees industry, so that means they have perfected making and creating rubber product. Nexen is also starting to be known with their performance tires like with the off road and racing tires. By the way bought mine online from 4wheelonline, delivered the next day.

I had a set on my 04 Grand Prix and in 25,000 miles they wore 3/32s. With 6,000 mile rotates. They were good quality tires
