I bought an Actron CP9580 scanner. It accesses a data base that gives vehicle specific suggestions for how to correct any codes it detects, and it can scan and record, but the main reason I bought it is it reads all ABS codes for 96 and newer Ford, GM and Chrysler vehicles. I am hoping this will allow me to diagnose why my Service Stability System light is on. They have a slightly less expensive scanner that just reads ABS codes, but the best price I saw for that one was $80, and I got the full function version for $100.
For ABS issues, it not only tells you what the trouble code is, it directs you to the most likely cause. For example, it will tell you the right front wheel speed sensor is malfunctioning.
At least that is what is advertised to do. I will find out for sure as soon as I receive it.

I need to pick up a couple sockets soon. Apparently I broke my 1/2" cheap walmart socket when I installed my STB. I didn't notice it until I saw the big crack in the side yesterday

I know, but according to the literature it will read codes for vehicle speed sensors, wheel speed sensors, EBCM, etc. Only things left are yaw and steering wheel position sensors, and I will find out if it reads those or not.
