04 Grand Prix Temp.
Hey guys my old man called me last night and told me that his car temp gauge seems to be moving more than normal, he said it doesn't get in the red or anything but it goes up NEAR 3/4 sometimes. I haven't had a chance to get over there and look at it but asking him to check anything is like pulling teeth. So sometime this weekend i am hopeing to get a look see. Any clues what I should look for. Oh I also wanted to mention that he has lost 1 QT of oil in the last 5-7K miles. We run synthetic so we go longer on changes but I have never been a qt low on any car (well the bonnie doesn't count, it leaks so I check it often)
P.*. The grand prix doesn't leak oil either........ :?

UPDATE................
I drove the car today and the temp seems to be fine, I went on the freeway and in stop and go traffic for about 2 hours, no abnormal signs of high temp to me. BUT why is it burning 1 QT of oil in 5K miles? I really need help with this because this car only have 50 some odd thousand miles on it.
Thanks,
Chris

Can you see blue smoke in the exhaust? If not I'd just change the oil & keep a close eye on the level. Maybe Dad went a lot more than 5,000 miles. You might want to change the PCV valve although I'd think that would be more likely to cause an oil leak.

PCV valve is fine and now he tells me that sometimes it stalls when he starts it. This is the drive by wire 3800 so I don't know what different, but could it be a TPS?

At 50k I'd be checking the intake by the EGR tube.
Any signs of oil in the antifreeze (LIM leak)? You'll see discoloration in the overflow bottle if oil is getting in.
