Low Engine Coolant 2005 Pontiac Montana
Starting to get a low engine coolant warning. The needle will go all the way to hot it tells me that the AC is disabled for reasons. The engine will run slow then all of a sudden the needle will go back to normal then the engine runs fine again.
Antifreeze is good, there is not water in the oil, all the relays check good. Just Curious to see if anyone else has had this problem.

AC is not disabled(coolant fan is probably running, but not having an effect).......you have a coolant leak(low coolant light is on).......creates an air pocket, inhibiting coolant flow through the engine, causing it to overheat.....if the air pocket "pushes through", then temp returns to normal.....
Vehicle should not be driven this way.....could lead to more expensive head gasket problem......
Should be immediately be diagnosed and repaired.....

I agree. Fluctuations you are seeing are due to air pockets in the coolant. You could bleed the air out and replace the missing coolant, but that is not dealing with the underlying issue of why/where you are losing coolant.

Is this the 3.5 engine? I think this has the redesigned lower intake gaskets....
Hate to say it, but if you can't find an "external" leak, like a w/p, hose, etc., then it'* internal, and could be a head gasket......do you notice an initial misfire on startup?
You have to find the source of the leak, otherwise you will be making unnecessary repairs....
