I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT 2.4L with 4 cylinders. I took my car to the shop after realizing that it was not picking up speed when i got on the highway. The car would accelerate as I pressed on the gas but it would just not move. The shop said I had a misfire in cylinders 2 & 4. They recommended me to get a new coil pack, module, and spark plugs. Is this going to solve the problem because I really do not want to pay and the car is still acting up! Please help.

Also please respond immediately I am trying to get the car fixed by next friday!

He seems to be right, but a coil pack AND module? I say replace the coil pack first. If that doesn't fix it, then go ahead and replace the module.

well if you have a scanner and can borrow one you can swap parts one at a time until the problem moves

You have two ignition coils ... one feeds cylinders 1 and 4 and the other feeds 2 and 3. With it misfiring on 2 and 4 chances are the problem is not an ignition coil (unless both are bad). When is the last time you changed plugs and wires? I would start with the basics of changing plugs and wires (if they have not been changed in a while) and see if that fixes the problem.

Well I have had the car since May and I don't think that they have been changed in a while, so you don't think getting the parts they recommended will solve the problem of it not getting speed?

The parts they suggested could very well be the problem, but if my car was misfiring and the plugs and wires had not been changed in a while, I would start there. Also, if it was a 1/4 misfire, or a 2/3 misfire I would suspect a coil. A 2/4 misfire makes me think it is something else.

Did the shop check fuel pressure?

I am not sure all I know is they scanned and the codes came up they also said something was wrong with my traction. I just want to make sure I am making the right decision because I need my car too run so I can travel to and from work

Dont worry about the traction code, which is likely a bad connection or sensor. I would check the plugs first, then wires, then module. The 2/4 does seem like a non-coil pack problem. Also, ask them for the codes list, and maybe someone here can given you more help.

Okay I will post it tomorrow I am going there for them to rescan and possibly give me a price on fixing

The codes they have were p0300 p1137 and p0741
