Just recently I got a set of new tires: Potenza G009'*

Ever since then, I have been experiencing some vibration at pretty much any speed, getting worse as the car goes faster. Here is the situation:

2 weeks ago -
--The wheels were balanced with the new tires.
--I also had an inner tie rod end replaced on the driver side.
--I felt vibrations after driving around, but I was getting an alignment soon so I figured I would just deal with it.

1 week ago-
--Got alignment. The toe was off a little bit.
--Still vibrating. Went and got wheels balanced again at my Dad'* shop.
--After that, still felt a little vibration at higher speeds, but it was better.

Couple days after that-
--My Dad recalibrated his balancing machine, and balanced the wheels again. The machine said that everything was balanced.
--I still feel some vibration, but not as bad as it was.

Could my new tires be the culprit here?
Is it possible that with certain tires the wheels can't always balance properly?
Could it be related to the inner tie rod end?

It is a road force balancing machine, or just the standard run of the mill?

I think a standard one. You take the wheel off and attack it to the end of a machine, it spins the wheel for a bit and gives you a reading.

It'* possible a belt is broken or something is wrong with a tire. Try rotating them around and see if the vibration moves with it.

Someone mentioned moving them around on the other forum too. I will look in to doing that when I can get up to the shop again next week.

Did you go to a tire shop to get them installed, or your dads shop?

If you went elsewhere (not your dads shop) to get the tires, I'd go back and tell them you have a vibration that started when you got the tires. Hopefully they'll have a road force balance machine, and if there is a problem with one or more of the tires they should be able to see that. Although, road force balance machines unfortunately aren't as common as they should be.

Other than that, like was said try moving the tires around and see if the vibration gets better/goes away.

It was at my Dad'* shop. I'm going home next week for the auto show, so I'll look in to it more then.

I like the tires a lot, but this vibration needs to go.

No tire should vibrate. And if you didn't notice it before the tires, it probably isn't a bearing or axle. Most likely..it'* a tire.

Sounds like an out of round tire. Watch the tread surface while it'* spinning on the balancer, I bet it oscillates. Should be covered under warranty.

Update...


Turns out a ball joint was bad on the driver side. The ride feels much better.

HOWEVER, there is still a vibration which starts at about 60mph and gets progressively worse as the speed increases. At 70 it is not bad, but at 80 it is enough to be annoying.

Since it gets worse at higher speeds, does that still mean a tire is out of balance? I never had the front wheels switched to the back since the ball joint was replaced and I figured that was the issue.

The tires were checked for balance again for safe measure, and only the front driver side was out of balance again. It was re-balanced.
