My factory installed radio and CD player still works, but the discs get stuck and I have to extract them with tweezers. Yeah. Lol. So about six months ago, I bought a new Pioneer stereo (complete with inputs for iPods! YAY! Joining this century lol!)
However, I have yet to install the stereo because I was told that I need a special harness that won't disable my vehicle'* communication system (key/door chimes, change oil notifications, etc) AND airbags!! The oil change this is fine, I can live without that, but I do NOT want to mess with the airbags! When I bought the stereo, I was moving and didn't have the money for this fancy harness that apparently costs double what the stereo cost!
Then I just put it off because I've been busy. Plus, I'm nervous that someone will do it incorrectly.
Well, now I have the money and my CD player sitch is getting on my last nerve. I'm ready to get this done and soon!!! I want to listen to my iPod! Can someone please clarify exactly what harness I need (and preferably a good deal on one... yes, I checked Crutchfield as suggested by a friend and it said no results matched my search).
Should I have a GM dealer install it for me? Or do you suggest finding a trust worthy car audio specialist?
Car Specs: 2006 Pontiac G6 Sedan. No On-Star, regular (not Monsoon) stereo.
