Default Can I put a '97 4T65E HD trans in a 2000 Grand Prix?

Hi all, I have a few of each of these cars, but I need some guidance.

I need a drivetrain for a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, since I sold it (demod, easier to sell complete items). I have found someone selling a '97 Bonneville SE, which has an L67, and apparently a newer transmission installed (4T65E-HD), but not sure of which year this is from.

I heard the '97 year cars (Grand Prixs) had vaccuum assisted transmissions, is this the case with Bonnevilles? Is there somewhere I can confirm on the trans in question if it'* exactly the same?

Your assistance is appreciated. I didn't even know where to begin searching this topic on here.. All the words are COMMON in most threads!

Thanks guys!

The Bonneville is an H-body and the Grand Prix W-body. The mount points will most likely be different.

A Bonneville SE typically does not have an HD trans. You'd have no problem with mounts as the side cover where the W bracket bolts to should be the same W or H. It'* a side cover. (Going W to H there'* concern regarding the back of the casing, but not in this case)

A 97 4T65HD will be electronically controlled. A 97 SE would have a 4T60 transmission. This will be clear when looking at the front of the trans. If it has a big can on the front and also the electrical connector is on the front. The 4T65 has the connector on the side of the trans (driverside) and no vacuum can.

The way the cooler lines connect will likely be a consideration. A 97 4T65 had threaded cooler lines and the 2000'* should have the click in style. One of the fittings is a different thread size where it goes into the case and prevents you from swapping it easily. There'* ways around that though.

Lastly, I'd check with/on Dave'* website Tripleedgeperformance.com to ensure the 2000 isn't significantly different and it will work w/o issues.

Also it appears they have different in-line harness connectors most of the circuits are the same but each have a couple different

I think Bill is right the mounts do change over and everything switched to electronic in 97 and if its from a SE I think its the 4t60 not the 4t65-HD
