Abs?
I bought a 2006 GP and was wondering about the ABS. The manual said to turn on the ignition and a ABS light will com on in the dash.
If It has ABS.
My question Is why wasn't this standard equipment by 2006?
My 1994 Bonneville has ABS and traction control.
I also thought that all cars had ABS by 2006 because it was such a safety feature.
So please get me up to speed in the Automotive world.
Thanks
Brian

There are one of two ways to tell if your car has ABS.
1. Look for a wire going to each wheel hub.
2. Look at the RPO sticker on the spare wheel cover. Post every single RPO number listed here and I can tell you if your car came with ABS.

not every car comes with abs because some people dont care for it. it was an optionon my old 03 monte ls, that i didnt want because i figured just something else to go and alot of times the brake rotors and stuff you have to replace are cheaper

yeah,
I just thought it became another government safety mandate like air bags etc. I had allot of problems with it when I first used it because I was use to pumping my brakes in a sliding condition....It was the way I was taught up north here is the snow and ice.
Anyhow I guess It is only an option and that is fine.

i live less than an hour from buffalo, it snows here in feet. Ive been in it for a long time and have had both non and with abs and in my opinion the right set of tires is way more important than abs. i get bfg traction t/a'* for my dd and my wifes and we have never had a problem. the only time i use my yukon is when the snow on the road is more than 6inches, i still have to go to work even when they shut down traffic.

I agree with you. I grew up driving rear wheel drive cars in allot of snow and ice. Talk about no traction. I remember sitting at a stop light and letting up on the brakes a little and my back tire would start to turn from an idle and my front brakes would hold the car ...yeah the tires weren't too good. Why I asked Is my daughter... a new driver ...will be driving the GP. And I thought I wouldn't have to teach her the pump method. But I am glad I will because It is a good thing to know. Once you lock up those brakes you loss traction and steering as You know. I will take her out to a parking lot or a county road and show her once a good snow storm comes.
I was talking to guy at a local health club last winter and he grew up in Buffalo. He had some wild stories about how much snow you guys get.
And here comes another winter.......
