Default Dont know where to begin......

I have a 02 GP GT Sedan that I recentally picked up. Has been a fantastic car so far.....until this morning. I was driving my son to school and had my front defrosters on. Suddenly I got a vey sweet smell in the car and the heater stopped. My windows all fogged up to the point I almost had to pull over.

There are 5 settings and none of them work. From any position from the floor to the winshield. I called my mechanic and he cant look at it until next week so I am loing to see if anyone has an idea where to start.

On a side note....I have been gone a while and glad to be back!!

When you say the heater stopped working, did the fan stop blowing? The sweet smell would mean that coolant is leaking somewhere. This also means you are at risk to overheat.

The first thing to determine is if the leak is inside or outside. The windows fogging and getting goop on them is an indicator that says it'* likely your heater core is leaking.

Thanks for the quick reply Bill, the fan did stop. I have nothing coming from the car. The smell is gone. No goop on the windows. It was slight condensation. Its in the 70'* here in NY but I know the snow will be flying andI need this fixed. Do you think this is a DIY kinda job or leave it for the professionals. Do you know if there are any diagrams out there that show the location and further information.

Thanks!!

I'm also going to say heater core. What'* your coolant pressure? Have you checked the coolant level in the overflow tank and in the radiator by taking the cap off? Check the pressure by waiting till your car is at operating temperature and squeezing the coolant hose. It should be quite firm.

Guys..without coolant goop on the windows...that smell could very well have been from outside and the fogging from the defroster not working due to lack of coolant.

Jak...take a look around for leaks and check the coolant level. Might be in your realm, you need to find out where the leak is and then we can guide you on the proper fix.

So the mechanic looked at the car yesterday. He said that I have a failed blower motor. He was getting nothing from it and the resister pack is ok. Coolant is right, no water or dew in the car. He told me that it is under the dash but wont give me full details because he obviously wants to fix it. He told me for the whole job couple hunderd bucks but I would love to know if it is a easy fix and if anyone knew where it was. If its not too bad of a job I would like to attempt it first before I pay $80 hr labor. Thanks for all the help!

Blower motors unless directly under the dash, are usually behind it. To fix them usually partial dash removal is required.
