Default Perfectly-cut brake line to nowhere

While I was cleaning under the hood, I noticed this.

I'm not low on fluid, I can stop the car just fine, the end is perfectly cut, there'* no matching broken end, and the lines going to all four wheels are intact.

What the heck am I looking at?

It looks like it went where you see that coupling on the brake line. It appears someone replaced a line and left the old stuff behind. Much easier to do it that way just incase you break another line trying to pull out the old one.

That'* a relief. I figured if it were a brake problem, I'd have crashed the car by now.

Mike, you need to get more sleep. No fifth wheel on a car, and no brake lines to fifth wheel anyway. It was not a serious comment, more like a doofus detector. Looks like I caught one.

Considering I am in West Virginia right now, I could see how the 2 would relate.
