Well, I thought changing the water pump was going to be fairly easy until I discovered that the bracket for the front engine mount is right up against the front of the water pump. I have all the engine mount bolts out with a jack lightly supporting the oil pan and I cannot get the mount to come loose from the frame. I have all 4 bolts out and it won't budge. The only two bolts I need to still get out of the water pump are of course the two that are on the right side of the mount and you have to go through the mount to get them out. I had to order a special 1/2" socket from Sears that you can use with a wrench on the end because I cannot get anything else in there that will work.

Is there some trick to getting the engine mount off and out of the way? Or getting the pump out and replaced?

I do believe that mount has a stud that needs to be remove. Did one of them have a nut one it? I think you can use a 5/16 socket and remove that stud.

There were two 15mm bolts that go in from the top and two 15mm bolts that go into the frame from the side, underneath the big round rubber sleeve. I did not see anything else and I used a very bright light to check.

On my 97 that mount had to bolts on top, and 2 from the side. There is also 4 bolts holding the mount to the engine, or was it three, can't remember. One bolt is behind the power steering pulley.

4 bolts on the frame section of the mount, 2 bolts and one nut on a stud on the engine part of the mount. 97 might be different?

Anybody out there replaced a water pump on a 93? I'm gettin mad. Who designed this brilliant piece of engineering?

I've changed one. It was a bit of a bear to get it out, just make sure you have all the mounting nuts and bolts out, then it sort of wiggles and twists out of there.

According to the FSM for Buick C/H Bodies in '93, to remove the TA mount, you support the engine after removing the drive belt, remove the through-bolt on the mount, then there are two bolts on top of the frame, and two on the side as you mentioned. The frame half of the mount then should come out. There is then 2 bolts, and one nut that hold the bracket on the side of the engine.

Cliff notes:

-Break loose bolts on WP pulley
-Remove drivebelt
-Remove WP pulley <manual indicates that a access hole provided in the body side rail. I don't know what they are referring to here>
-Lift side of engine to unload mount
-Remove through bolt on mount, that will separate mount
-4 bolts out on frame side of mount, 2 top, 2 side
-2 bolts and 1 nut out on engine side, bracket should slide off
-bolts then come out of the water pump perimeter. <8 from the looks of the FSM, as well as a non removeable stud, I suspect from the TA mount>

I have all the water pump bolts out. All the mount bolts out and I cannot get the frame section of the mount to come loose from the engine side of the mount, in other words, I cannot separate the the two halves of the mount itself. Of course the A/C lines just happen to be directly above the frame half of the mount making it less than easy to get a pry bar in there. Now we might get up to 6" of snow tomorrow so I may be screwed until the weekend anyway.
