Default What extra parts needed to replace timing chain, 97 Grand Am GT 3.1? Which chain?

Obviously I need the chain, gasket and gasket sealer. Autozone has 2 that fit my car but they're slightly different. I don't know which one to get...

- Part # C - 385, just says "timing chain" and is black.
- Part # C385 says "64 link" and is a brass color.

Also, Do I automatically need a new damper the way you automatically put a new gasket seal in? I'm not sure what the damper is.

Should I automatically put a new timing cover seal in too?

Thanks.

I'm not sure about the chain never been asked that question autozone sometimes has weird listings. The best would be to match the old one up and the tensioner should also be replaces with the timeing chain set after all it will have the same amount of miles on it and sometimes they fail with age. I would also put the seal in as well ik when i did the chain in my bros 3.1 it was a kit chain ,gears, gasket, and seal, good luck let us no what chain it is i would be interested to no.... one other thing I have noticed with the 3.1s is that some of the engines are made in mexico and some are made in the US. Ive seen them both and is stamped on the block maybe thats y there is 2 different listings for it?

A dampener in the 3.8L application means tensioner. GM did this pretty univeral across it'* motors. I would suggest replacing the dampener as a habit. Likely it'* $15 of assurance that you want.

That'* about all the info I have on it because with the tighter than 3.8L vehicle space in the bay etc, I run from the 3.1L motor like it'* the plague. Not a fun motor to work on.
