Default 2003 Grand Am doesn't start.

My wife'* 2003 Grand Am, 2.2L 4 cylinder. Problems began in November, when the car would not start. We had it towed, the garage we took it to told us the problem was the fuel pump. The fuel pump had been replaced 13 months previously (just out of warranty, naturally). So we put in a new pump and filter. Car ran ok for another month or so, then wouldn't start again. Had it towed to the same garage, where we were quoted for a new ignition coil, plugs, boots, ICM, and tune up. Told the guy no thanks, replaced the coil, plugs, boots and ICM myself. Car started, but would not run long, stalling out when the throttle was depressed. Put the original ICM back in, the car ran fine for another month or so.

The third time the car wouldn't start, had it towed again, except this time the car ran fine when it arrived at my house. Checked the OBDII, no codes, all sensors ok. Fuel pressure ok. Car ran fine for a month, then would not start again. It sat for a few days, I saw it was low on oil, so I put 2 qt. in, and it started and ran ok. Changed the oil, and it ran fine until last week, when it refused to start again. Battery is 12.5V, fuel tank is full. Pressure is ok to the rail. I've narrowed the problem down to the fuel injectors or the PCM, but I'm not sure if it'* a sensor issue or if the computer is NFG. Can anyone give me a clue? Thanks in advance.

take a plug out and lay it on the head by the hole to see if you have spark. that will help determine your next step

Describe what'* happening when the motor wont start. Is there an occasional fire? Clicking? Does it just crank and crank?

Is the security light on or blinking?

The intermittent no start has me thinking ignition, or possible crank sensor. the problem is a crank sensor is hard to test without the proper tools.

When it wont start, pull a plug. Is it wet or dry? If it'* wet, then you know fuel is not the problem, injectors are firing.

Thanks guys. I have pulled a plug, and there is spark. The plug was dry, and the injectors are not firing. There is no pulse from the ECM when I try to start the engine. It simply cranks and cranks, but won't turn over. The security light does flash, and I've tried leaving the key in the on position for 20 minutes and then starting the car, with no success. I've found a few other remedies for the security issue that involve opening and closing the doors that I'm going to try, and then I'll go hack away at the crank shaft sensor. If I'm not mistaken, it'* under the engine on the front side, behind the starter. Is that correct?

if your security light is flashing you can forget all that other junk, if your car is like my 03 monte it has a bcm that controls alot of things including security. if both keys wont work your in for a trip to the dealer. i dont know if your bcm is bad or lost memory but maybe they can tell you. if its bad you can buy a used one but you still have to take it to them to have it programed for your car
