Default changing rear brake pads on a 2001 Grand Prix

Is this similar to changing front on a typical gm car? Getting ready to change them out and was wondering also which brand and type should I buy?

I've never done the brakes on a 01 GP. The closest was a 2000. I have no idea if they are the same, but if they are - you should have no problem doing the rears, if you know how to do the fronts. I believe they piston can even be compressed in with a C clamp, like the fronts, rather than turned in like the earlier GPs and the newer Bonnevilles.

They should be the same as mine, in which case, theyre easy.

There arent even any torx heads to mess with, theyre real live bolts!

I didnt change the rotors on mine, I believe they may be slightly warped, Ive heard many w-body owners complain about rear rotor warp.

I used el cheap Brakebest organic pads, I dont notice a performance difference but they are now the only source of brake squeal I have. I have ceramics up front and theyre dead silent, but the back ones will squeak from time to time if you dont get ceramic....at least in my experience.

But both the front and rear brakes on this car are the easiest Ive ever seen.

Yes you can use a c-clamp if its the right size, although I think mine actually just slipped off without one.

It should be really easy to do. I know on the earlier GPs like mine, they have the turn in style rear calipers. I have had a new GP as well 97-03 are all the same. If you can do the fronts the rear shouldn't be that much of a challenge.

you should start your own thread instead of digging up an old one and state; car type, year, and if you blead the brakes properly
