2000 Bonneville Transmission Troubles
The transmission in my Bonneville has been slipping and just overall acting up lately. I decided to change the fluid and filter to aid it, but it didn't make it any better. Car has 150k miles on it, and I believe the transmission was changed back when it had 30k on it becuase of some GM recall or something.
Anyway, I was wondering how big of a project it is to rebuild the transmission, or where I could get a refirbished one or if I could just take the transmission itself into a transmission shop and have them do it. (Prices on both options) It'* a nice car, the transmission issues just make it a pain to drive.
I did some looking around and I found this thread https://www.gmforum.com/mechanical-134/remove-transmission-primarily-96-99-a-289278/ I'm assuming it is about the same as my car. Also found this thread about diagnosing it https://www.gmforum.com/4t60e-145/transmission-trouble-shooting-guide-279700/
I'd want to pull it apart and just rebuild the whole transmission. Is this excessively hard with basic tools or are a lot of special knowledge and tools required. I have done a head gasket on my M3 to kinda judge my technical ability.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

The reason I look to rebuild is to save money and learn new things. This is not my primary car during the summer, so a little risk/reward to blow time and gain knowledge does not bother me at all. I'm going into Mechanical Engineering hoping to focus in the automotive industry somewhere, so the more things I can learn by tinkering around on my own stuff, the better off I'll be, experience wise, and when the interview comes around.
Any idea on a good place to start on a manual. (Or what model transmission I actually have) Assuming the prices weren't rediculous I wouldn't be looking to "just fix the problem" I'd try and just replace everything that was in there outside of solid metal that shows no wear.

ON the removal..it'* very similar. You'll note the differences in side trans bracket and a couple other small things. Seems like you'd do fine with your experience.
On the rebuild. It does require a few tools that most don't have. Then the VB etc should have some upgrades etc.

Any specifics on the tools required? Does anyone rent these? Whats the VB?
Any ideas on what a shop would charge if I just brought them in the transmission. I'd imagine it'd save them at least 4 hours of work. Or does anyone make remanufactured transmissions?

I found a picture illustrated rebuild instructions online to do this pretty much step by step. In all honesty it still looks very very confusing. This could be a deal breaker. I guess it all depends what I plan on doing this summer and how much time I have. I guess this is why I prefer a manual. I wonder if I could do a manual swap lol.
I don't want to cross post to another forum, so if you really want to find it google search it.
Thanks for all of the help. If I end up doing it I'll probably take a few pictures and report back.

when ive had transmissions rebuilt there was quite a disparity in prices between shops, your best bet for a price would be to call around and see
