I just don't understand why A TPS would cause it not to shift?

The PCM needs to see certain values from many sensors in order for the transmission/engine to function properly. If the PCM seen a 100% throttle all the time, A. It would dump more fuel all the time, and B. It would change your shift patterns. And that'* just the tip of the ice berg. I could go on a lot longer on how each sensor has an effect on performance and even just the engine running. Did you know even a misfire condition will keep the cruise control from working?

I still doubt he has the old style kick down cable. More than likely, he has the standard issue 4T60-E trans. And the shift lever sensor is mounted on the top of the trans at the end of the cable. If it were a sensor issue, he should get a CEL.

Did you change the trans oil and filter? Did you test the TPS like Colin suggested in post #17?
