What is the best motor I can put in my 99 Grand Am
I have a 99 Grand Am that I sold to a friend and he hasn't done anything with instead of letting it collect dust and have the tires go flat. When I asked him what he was going to do with it and if he wanted to sell it back to me and his exact words were, pay for the gas and my dad will tow it to your house. The car only has 66k miles on it but has been sitting for a while and it came with the 2.4L. I want to pull the motor out and put something else in there with more horsepower possibly turbo or */c. What are my options. I'm use to working on imports as my current project and baby are my 99 3000gt.
My question is what options do I have with this Grand Am

Your best bet is to build the 2.4 and turbo it. You can get just as much, if not more power than most v6s. You can also put a 3500 from a G6 in, but it would take a little more work with the engine and trains mounts. Take a look at the grand am forums. http://www.gaownersclub.com has a lot of good info on engine swaps

If you want a 4 cylinder swap in a 2.0L Turbo Ecotec DI out of a Solstice or Cobalt SS. If you want a 6 cylinder I'd do a 3800 SC, that'd be badass.

Good luck putting a 3800 in it. It'll take a hell of a lot of work, and I'm 90% sure the supercharger won't fit without cutting a big hole in the hood. Not to mention the electronics. It would be quite bad *** though.

i'd go with a turbo 2.4/2.3 hybrid(basically, use the 2.4 bottom end with the HO Q4 top end) or a 3400/3500 and go nuts.
either way, pretty good chance you'll kill a transmission before the engine.
