Default Porting

Hi all,
Just before I head out the door for Iola I'll ask this.
I just stopped at the local Cobra Replica builders shop and checked on porting and he told me to bring the lower intake, the upper intake (1992 aluminum upper), the heads, and the exhaust manifolds in and he port and polish all of them for $250 and he get flow tests results before and after included.
How'* that for price?
He said on the Series I 3800 it'd be good for 25-35 hp, so I figured it'* not too bad for the price. He also said he is very interested i doing this as he has always wondered what these engines were capable of and so he really wants to do a good job and see the results.
My problem is I don't have a spare daily driver so I have to make this a week-end job (at least the parts swapping onto my SLE). I am taking the parts to be ported and polished off my 1992 SE. Is there anything besides the upper intake from the 1992 that won't work on the 1994? Both are L27'*.
I will be getting the rocker arms swapped from the 1994 head into the 1992 heads due to the fact that the 1994'* are roller'*.
Also, does anyone know of anywhere that sells performance cams, rockers, valves, etc for the L27?
How about the TB?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Stylez

That sounds cool. It would be better than spending 700 on new headers.

I'm working on a similar project. Basically the plan is to put a 92 aluminum upper intake onto a 94 lower intake. Only issue is the 94 TB is larger than the 92, so the upper intake from a 92 needs to be ported to match the 94 TB.

Main thing is, if you port the upper and lower intakes you will have to realise your going to tear up that tranny pretty fast. I know I know, I have nitrous...but I'm not planing on porting the upper intake unless I feel like going out and purchasing a 4T60-E HD trans.

I would pay $250 to have the upper and lower ported, no doubt about it...but I wouldn't do it till I had enough money to rebuild my trans. Think about it some.

That does look like a pretty good price, but there are a few complications. The gasket for the 92 TB is different than yours. To get the TB cooling passage to work with the 92 intake, you'll need to cut a custom gasket. Or simply block off the port altogether.

You MIGHT have problems with the PCV, but Mach and I are working on that hopefully.

Well, actually I was going to continue to use the plastic upper intake, but after a little 'surgery'. I didn't think I could use the 1992 intake, but my brother was going to pay part for the porting and put the ported upper intake on his 1992 SSE.
On the part about the tranny. That'* no sweat since I have a 4T60E-HD sitting in the back yard. It'* out of a 1993 Park Avenue Ultra with 98,xxx miles on it.
I figure I'll put that in sometime this fall.
It will probably be 2-3 weeks before the porting is all done and on my car, but boy I sure am anxious. If all goes well with the porting I will be pulling the 3" down pipe off the 1993 Park Ultra parts car and putting that on for a test. Oh well, for now I gues I should just work on the porting and the tranny replacement (who sells the shift kit for the 4T60E?).
Would be sweet to go out to Rock Falls Race way in Rock Falls, Wisconsin and pull off a high 14 run in a NA L27 Bonneville. Hopefully it will be ready to go for the August 3rd meet I nthe Twin Cities.

Stylez

Anyhow

Are you porting the upper and lower for the 92? Or just the lower for the 94?

What made you give up on putting an aluminum upper in place of the plastic one?
