can't stop on dimes
My 95 SE has some brake issues. I got my brakes done at Meinike in August. New rotors and pads in the front. I had my rear'* done in the summer last year. My car has 128k on it now. The car stops fine at low speed, it always has but at high speed I don't feel real comfy. Above 50, esplicaly between 70 & 80, when I haul her down its not very reassuaring. I've had other cars that have stopped much better at high speeds. If I have to nail my brakes at 50 I know I'm gonna be kissing somebodys rearend.
If any of you guys are from Jersey and drive on the GSP you know what its like when you have to stop now cause some putz is doin' 60 in the left lane..
Have any of you guys upgraded your front brakes? Is there a better brand or type of pad I should use that would help. Or a bigger rotor maybe, I have the 16inch rims. Oh yeah and it can't cost a fortune, I can't afford brembos. Thanx much

I had that bad feeling. I didn't think it was normal but I've had 6 GM'* for over the past 18 years now so you know where I'm coming from..(I'm not GM bashing, I wouldn't drive anything else but you know.
I'm gettin my oil changed from a new mechanic I found a few months back, I'll have him look at them before I take it back to Meinike so I know what needs to be replaced.
Otherwise they'll give me the "woman" routine, "there'* nothing wrong with your brakes Mr Johnson, thats normal for your car." I only went to meinike (how do you spell that) because I wanted the lifetime warranty on the pads.
thanx guys
Every time I get hosed I tell myself it won't happen again and WHAM, again it happens..
Darn it!!!

And you can get a lifetime warranty on pads at almost any shop, it really depends on the pad manufacturer as opposed to the shop.

Pads are wear items. The pads with the life time warranties are much have a low Cf (no bite) and are very hard.
Your life is worth more than what you save. Get real pads on there.

I have used a few diffrent pads... Performance friction was nice and had plenty of bite, Rotors didn't like them...
I have had nothing But nighmares with Albany brake pads, and wearever...
So Far Bendix has more than served me well for several years, especially when they came out with the Bendix Titanium...
Even my 95 wasn't too bad with AC Delco pads, had some brake fade after driving 70-80 mph for extended periods of time, but it wasn't enough to make me feel uncomfortable that the car wouldn't stop...
Just like suggested, you got hosed... After what I have learned from a freind about brakes... I will never take my car to a shop like that ever again... Been doing my own sence the warranty ran out... lol

Yeah Yeah Yeah I got hosed...Again...I'm not goin to even tell ya what I paid for my lifetime pads & rotors..I see I'm gonna need new pads.
The million dollar question is: how tough is too change the pads on bonnies.. I have a car buddy I've known for about a year who says he can do simple stuff with the right tools..I can't afford to pay to have my brakes done again right now espically when I want really good pads. I haven't done disc brakes since I helped my friend on his 83 280zx back in 95. I remember they weren't tough. I;m not a "real" mechanic but with someone helping I can figure stuff out and follow directions. Can I find the tools I need in my pops tool shed??
What kind of pads should I get?? I know everyone has their brand prefernces, but whats the differences. Can I get something really decent for under 100 bucks..
When I tend to buy the most expensive of something thinking I'm getting the best thats when I get HOSED or I just pissed my money away.. Like now for example..It almost always happens.
so If my buddy helps me I can save some dough and buy better pads..and if I didn't trust him I wouldn't let him with my brakes..I'm not that thrifty when it comes to my bonnie.when I can afford it anyway..
