Default F41 suspension question

I was at the junkyard today, looking for some stiffer sway bars for the Buick, and we saw a few different H-bodies with F41 suspensions, all unmolested. One I think was a Park Ave, I forget the other post-'92. There were also a few assorted "first gen" h'* with the F41.

The springs I suppose are different, depending on load rating? How about sways? Differences between years, models, or are the parts the same?

Also, for a small bribe, I'll tell you where they're at.

Oh, and what came on a mid 90'* SSE? FE2? The trunk sticker was missing...

FE2 and F41 sways are identical. No difference.

I'd go with the 21mm rear sway, 16mm springs and NOT the 32mm front sway, waay too much understeer.

Well, I wasn't thinking of doing springs, personally. I like the soft highway ride. I just wouldn't mind reducing body roll a little, which is where the sways come in.

So you're suggesting just swapping in the rear bar, and keeping the front as she is? I thought of doing that, since it would seem to reduce understeer while adding some roll stiffness. Anyone else have a recommendation on whether or not to swap out the front and rear or just rear? If the front isn't heartily recommended, I might skip it due to the labor involved. I suppose I'd have to get another alignment done after the front too, right? Since the steering links get removed and reinstalled from the spindle?

Does anyone know off-hand what size the FE1 front/rear sways were in 1996?

I'm open to suggestions. Right now I've just got the 21mm (I think, don't have a caliper, but that'* close) rear sway. I was going to grab the front off of the same SSE, but we ran out of time before the yard closed. I figured on going back for it, but maybe I don't need to...

Unless you break the locknuts loose and adjust them for some reason, Your alignment won't change.

Swap the rear first, Then see if you think the front end needs to be stiffer.

Really? There isn't enough slop between the hole in the spindle and the tie rod end to allow for any change when reinstalled? That would be good news (since I literally just had it aligned less than a week ago), but it almost seems too good to be true.

Oh sure, be all logical on me... Actually yes, that is a good idea. I'll have to take it out before and after to see if it does what I want it to. I'll have to pry my wife out of it first though.

I can give a little insight on this.

1, a rear sway is cake. You will notice a large impovement with the replacement of the rear becasue the size is about 5mm different (16-21 I think) Definate handing difference. The fronts on the otherhad are not that much larger and you really dont notice that much of a difference between the stiffer and softer bars.

2. The fronts are a b!tch. And depending how you get them out, you will need and alignment.

I disagree with only doing the rear. They were set up for balance from the factory. And I said earlier, I'll repeat it, there is NO DIFFERENCE between the FE2 and F41 sways. They are the same.

Right, they were set up for understeer. Alot of understeer. It'* actually an annoying amount of understeer. Now, Some may say that the factory knows better than us, But would you rather put a factory susp under a Camaro or a Ground Control kit?

Huh? He could pop off the inner tie rods and still not need an alignment. Just don't loosen the locknut.

The hole is tapered. If there were slop it would create some interesting handling.
