Default Water Injection

I am just creating this thread to split up all the more water injection threads out there..

How much use of the water injection [with lets say.. 50/50 mix rubbing alcohol/water] would it take to clean off the hard carbon and/or prevent more from building up?

Is there an actual performance gain from this? No matter the amount, whether it be .0001hp I don't care.

What if I [or anyone else for that matter], cannot create a high quality system like you have, Bill? Is it possible for someone to throw together a system made of homemade components and still receive the same benefits?

Can Water Injection reduce knocking, pinging, detonation, or the like?

Is the Water injection system harmful to my MAF or IAT Sensors? Or any other sensor on the engine for that matter?

This sounds more like an FAQ minus the answers more than anything..

Here'* what I was thinking as far as a 'homemade' system. Take a spray bottle [one that sprays a mist], remove that nozzle, and mount it on my [imaginary at the moment] CAI Air Filter end.. so it'* a straight shot. Not to mention mounting it there will also allow the heat shield to hide any wiring or hoses and such. For a bottle.. I would probably use the bottle I stole the nozzle from until something more 'professional' comes along. Then, for a pump, use the pump I am not going to use for the windshield washer to pump water to the nozzle [or do something with the original {nozzle/spray bottle} pump to automate it]. In theory it sounds like it would work, right? What are your opinions?

the windshield washer pump is very commonly used on dsm'* for water injection. i don't understand why you would want water injection unless you plan on seeing major track time. what do i know though?

Think he'* going more for the cleaning aspect for the injection. I don't think N/A'd cars really benefit from it. Wilwren will know more.

Rubbing alcohol? You need to do alot of homework. And if you're interested in the cleaning aspect only, don't use anything but water.

I thought the methanol was used for cooling too.. but I guess I was mistaken.

Methanol is NOT rubbing alcohol.

the main purpose in adding methanol is to prevent freezing during the winter....

okay, I did alot of research on this matter

-just use windshield washer solvent (believe it or not it is very flammible)

-a windshield washer solvent bottle will put out 15psi (I tested it)

-attach the hose to the end of a fuel injector (it will fire on 15 psi)

-now the firing of the fuel injector is the hard part, you are going to have to have something made that triggers the injector at a pulse rate of 25 times per sec. It can be made and will complete the system.

-make a switch for the injector and the pump and bam! water injection!

I think it will help a N/A engiine and it will clean (steam) and the alcohol will burn for that extra bang

Something I am never going to try. I might accidentally blow my car up.
